Since joining Atalanta on a €25.5m move from West Ham United last summer, Italian centre-forward Gianluca Scamacca has been having ups and downs at the Serie A side.

Today, the striker was targeted by some public criticism made by club manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who was interviewed by L’Eco di Bergamo.

In quotes brought by TuttoMercatoWeb, the coach complained about Scamacca’s mobility, claiming the former West Ham player hasn’t been running enough lately.

“He has to run because he isn’t running much. If he isn’t dynamic, he won’t be able to do anything good. Even if he has these important qualities…,” said Gasperini.

Scamacca joined West Ham on a €28.5m move from Sassuolo in the summer of 2022. In his year at the London side, he had eight goals in 27 appearances, with the Hammers choosing for a quick sale to recover part of the investment they made on him.

Now since his arrival at Atalanta, the striker has six goals and two assists in 20 appearances, having struggling a little with a couple of injuries.

It seems there’s a good chance he’ll have a better first season than at West Ham, but Gasperini is definitely waiting for more from him, and won’t keep those issues privately.
