Atalanta have identified Aston Villa’s Matty Cash as a target to strengthen their defence this summer.
That’s according to Tutto Atalanta, who state the Serie A side have shifted their focus to the right-back, after failing to sign UD Almería’s Marc Pubill.
The Aston Villa player represents an ‘ambitious’ target for La Dea because of his qualities and experience.
Atalanta’s interest in the 27-year-old also shows their ‘ambition’ to improve their squad, to challenge on multiple fronts next season.
Cash has been a regular under Unai Emery and is currently the only recognised right-back at Villa Park, with youngster Kosta Nedeljkovic as his deputy. This would make it difficult for the Europa League winners to take him away from Aston Villa.
The Poland international’s deal lasts until 2027, and the report adds the Villans would ask for a ‘significant fee’ to let him leave in this window.
It’s claimed Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are ready to move in quickly for the fullback and the next few days would be crucial to find out if their negotiations, likely with Aston Villa, would bear fruit.
