Wolves signed Yerson Mosquera from Atletico Nacional in 2021, and he made his debut for them in the EFL Cup.

That debut was to be somewhat ill fated, with the player picking up a hamstring injury and having to undergo surgery.

The 22-year-old defender then moved on loan to FC Cincinnati in MLS, and in January of this year Wolves sent him to Villarreal for the rest of the current season.

Since then, the Colombia international has managed ten appearances, even picking up a goal along the way.

He’s largely been a regular and that’s encouraged him to stay where he is, either for the whole of next season or even on a longer term basis as a full transfer.

SuperDeporte have been speaking to Mosquera, and the Wolves owned player certainly isn’t shy about making his intentions public with regards to his future.

The Spanish newspaper quote him as saying: “I don’t close the doors to continuing, to be honest. I am very clear about what I want. I have told many people, the clubs too, I am very comfortable here, the people have received me very well, the club too, and if the opportunity arises to come here, I will be delighted to come. They have opened the doors for me here and this is a very special club that gives you all the conditions to grow.”

Further pressed on him being ‘delighted’ if Wolves and the Spanish negotiated either a loan or a permanent transfer, Mosquera said:  “Yes. I don’t really close the door. Villarreal is a big club which has a good track record in terms of great players and international tournaments. Continuing in this club would be very good for me to have a number of games here and add to my career.

“Honestly, I would like to stay, I have no problem saying it, I have expressed it to the club (Villarreal), in England (Wolves) I have also told them that my intention is to have the opportunity to stay. But this is football and nobody knows what will happen. It may or may not happen.”

Now it’s down to Wolves on whether they see a place for him in their squad next season, believe he needs more time on loan, or feel a permanent exit could be the best solution.
