Liverpool defender Ronald Araújo’s agent Edoardo Crnjar isn’t closing the door on a permanent move to the Premier League side after joining them on loan from Barcelona in the summer.
The Uruguay international lost prominence under Hansi Flick earlier this year. He wasn’t going to have a key role at Barcelona and therefore moved to Liverpool.
His decision has paid off as the centre-back enjoyed regular minutes with the Reds this season. To put it in context, he played 872 minutes from 13 matches, even managing two goals and an assist.
He prefers to operate in the heart of the defence while Andoni Iraola has mainly used him as a right-back.
Good start to Liverpool spell
As part of the loan deal, the Merseyside club agreed a €55m purchase option with the La Liga winners. His impressive performances have led to suggestions of Liverpool possibly exercising the clause as early as January.
Earlier this month, the British press stated that the 27-year-old’s form had dipped, resulting in doubts over Liverpool making his stay permanent. His representative was quick to dismiss this suggestion.
He said: “These are unfounded rumours. [He’s proceeding] according to the plan established with the coaching staff and the club’s management.”
Edoardo Crnjar has now given another interview, this time to WinWin, to discuss Ronald Araújo’s move to Liverpool and his future.
Agent says too early to discuss Liverpool future
The representative says the Barcelona owned player is enjoying life at Anfield. However, it is too early to discuss whether Liverpool will buy him by exercising the €55m purchase clause next year.
“Ronald is performing well. We’re very happy with what he’s bringing to the team, but it’s still too early to talk about his future at this point,” he said.
“He’s feeling great. He’s happy to be playing for Liverpool and happy to help the club and his teammates, just as he already said.”
Liverpool would have an easy decision to buy Ronald Araújo if he continues to shine for the rest of the season.
With Barcelona reportedly searching the market for a centre-back, he’s unlikely to have a future at the Camp Nou. If that were to be the case, the Reds may try to sign him for less than €55m.
