West Ham United defender Jean-Clair Todibo will want to move on very quickly from this week. Lens’ 3-0 loss to Club Brugge in the Champions League will not go down as one of his best days.
The 26-year-old joined the French side on loan from West Ham in the summer. He was one of several to depart the Hammers this summer following relegation.
He’s yet to really establish himself at his new club so far, with just four appearances worth 185 minutes to date. The latest was a 45-minute display away to Club Brugge in the Champions League.
The centre-back was a second half substitute in that game and, L’Equipe cover his disastrous appearance today.
Five minute disaster class
The newspaper insisted that Brugge secured a resounding 3-0 win over Lens on Wednesday evening largely thanks to the decisive interventions of their keeper, Yann Sommer.
He frustrated Lens with a series of crucial saves in the game. The 38-year-old has had a rough start in Belgium, but this game saw him prove his class once again.
But Brugge were largely helped thanks to an awful second half performance from the West Ham loanee.
He came on in the second half and looked far off where he needed to be. For example, he misjudged the situation on Bruges’ second goal in particular. He left his left-sided central position to allow Joaquin Seys to double the Belgian side’s lead.
Even worse for third goal
‘He’d only been on the pitch for five minutes’ at that point, exclaim L’Equipe. Matters did not improve afterwards either.
Things were even worse on the third goal. He was drawn out of position by Nicolo Tresoldi in that instance, allowing Forbs to bag a goal. L’Equipe say that he was ‘out of sync’ for the entire sequence and painfully so.
It was a horror evening for the West Ham loanee, who will want to move on quickly from a game that will have done little to convince the French side to buy him permanently next summer.
