Denmark manager Brian Riemer confirms the need to call-up a replacement for Manchester United‘s Patrick Dorgu, after his setback in the 2-0 UEFA Nations League win over Wales on Sunday.
Last week, the manager started him on the right wing in Denmark’s 3-2 defeat to Norway.
On Sunday, Riemer started the Manchester United player against Wales, this time on the left wing. However, Dorgu picked up an injury and Stade de Reims winger Mohamed Daramy replaced him in the 30th minute.
He went down the tunnel, holding the back of his left thigh. There will be clarity on the extent of the damage after he undergoes further tests.
Manchester United man to miss international break
Denmark have two more UEFA Nations League matches during this international, against Portugal on October 1st and Wales on October 4th.
Brian Riemer confirms the 21-year-old won’t be part of the squad for these two fixtures because of the injury blow. The Manchester United man’s withdrawal will force him to bring in a replacement, and Tipsbladet have relayed his comments.
“He’s suffered an injury and has to go home. We’ll have to call up a replacement,” he said.
Patrick Dorgu has ‘left the national team camp’, according to Campo in Denmark. They have also relayed additional comments from the manager about who could replace him.
“It could be Anders Dreyer, it could be Andreas Skov Olsen, who has got off to a good start in Turkey, but it could also be one of the young players,” Riemer explained.
Concern for Manchester United
Michael Carrick has utilised the Denmark international in the attack last season, mainly on the left wing.
This season, he again started on the left wing before playing as left-back during Luke Shaw’s absence against Sabah FK and Manchester City. Last week, Patrick Dorgu said he prefers to cement on position at Manchester United.
His latest setback and the withdrawal from the national team will raise alarm bells at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will eagerly await tests results, and this will determine whether the Dane can regain full fitness to face Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.
The versatile player has played 243 minutes from six matches, contributing two assists for the English club this season.
