Steven Bergwijn has been labelled an ‘erratic player’ as his move from Tottenham to Ajax continues to not work out.
The forward made the switch from Tottenham in the summer, having first been linked with a return to the Netherlands in the January transfer window.
A deal could now be struck at that point, but Ajax returned in the summer and eventually struck a €31.25m deal with Tottenham to make the move happen.
He enjoyed a strong start to the season, bagging six goals in his first five games in the Eredivisie and a goal against Rangers in the Champions League.
He’s struggled since then, though, only managing one goal and two assists in the six games since in the league and one strike against Napoli in the last five European games.
He again failed to make an impact as Ajax took on Liverpool in the Champions League this week, with another disappointing performance leading to criticism of the former Tottenham man from analyst Win Kieft.
“What is a real reinforcement? So far, I don’t think one player is really a reinforcement,” Ajax Showtime report him saying.
“I also have to tell you honestly that Bergwijn, after a pretty good start in the league, is again a bit the erratic player he already was at PSV.
“By the way, he is not that way in the Dutch national team, where he does play with flair.”
