Fan attacks on Aston Villa player causing concern – Transfer likely but summer may be ruined

Across the Italian media today there are reports on Aston Villa supporters slamming Nicolo Zaniolo.

It seems like one newspaper or website started it, and then the others all started looking for criticism and abuse sent towards the former AS Roma player.

Zaniolo is a big figure in the Italian sports media even when he doesn’t do anything. His career has caught the attention of the press there, and his actions during it have only encouraged the pack chasing him.

SportMediaSet are one of those covering the fan backlash, and like everyone else they believe an Aston Villa exit is on the cards in the summer.

Unai Emery’s side loaned Zaniolo from Galatasaray in the summer and there doesn’t appear to be the intention to keep the player beyond the end of that spell.

SportMediaSet believe the situation could also cause issues for the Italian national side, given the Euros are being held this summer. With Zaniolo out of form and struggling for minutes, it’s difficult to see how he’d be of much help.

Regardless, the concentration from the Italian media today is on Aston Villa supporters tearing the player to bits online. So be careful what you tweet, it may end up in an Italian newspaper.
