Tottenham‘s signing of Sandro Tonali has caught the attention of many. Spurs paid a club record fee to sign him and the player’s agent has now revealed the reasons behind the transfer.
The midfielder grew significantly during his time at Newcastle United. While he did win the Serie A with AC Milan, his experience at Tyneside helped him get to grips with English football. Despite an extended period out due to a ban, Tonali still managed to prove himself.

Even if he is yet to register a win in the Premier League, there is optimism Tonali is right to join Tottenham.
Spurs project convinced agent
The Italian’s representative Giuseppe Riso has now spoken to TuttoSport about his dealings in the summer transfer window. Tonali’s move to London is the most expensive transfer he has ever worked on and Riso opened up about the details.
He gave the player credit, noting that Tottenham’s project has proved key in the move.
“There are many years of work behind a deal like this. I’m not the one who set the record: Sandro deserved it on the pitch. At most, I made a few more phone calls.”
Riso revealed that Tonali is expected to have a very specific role under De Zerbi.
“Tottenham is a club that had a very clear idea of Sandro. When a club makes you understand that a player is a priority, everything becomes easier.”
Patience needed
De Zerbi’s side lost their first two games but a clear improvement was seen against Newcastle United. They did well for a majority of the game and it is a good sign for the future.
Tonali will be a key player, having featured in both the games. He has been the deepest of the two midfielders and that is probably what Riso himself is pointing at.
