Last week, Italy manager Rino Gattuso revealed Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa rejected a call-up to the national team as he didn’t feel fully ready.

They note that while Napoli and Inter Milan were interested in the player, they only wanted loan deals and the 27-year-old didn’t want to take the risk of moving elsewhere on such a basis. He was more inclined to ‘compete with top players’ at Liverpool instead of finding himself in an unfortunate situation in Serie A.
Further, Chiesa was also concerned about finding himself in ‘embarrassing situations’ at other clubs, as offers from Turkish clubs were also rejected.
The report claims the ex-Juventus man recognises the need to play if he wants to appear for Italy at the 2026 World Cup, but he wants to focus on that goal while staying at Liverpool as he is still convinced that he can make a mark at Anfield.
Chiesa is now hoping that Arne Slot gives him more opportunities in the season and prefers keeping other distractions away, as he is very determined to prove himself once again.
