Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but VfB Stuttgart are yet to reach an agreement with Brighton and Hove Albion for Deniz Undav.
In fact, it appears that the German side are now getting ever closer to pulling out of the matter entirely, at least if BW 24 are to be believed.
They cover the long, drawn-out negotiations for Undav today, with Stuttgart still locked in talks with Brighton as they attempt to bring him back after his successful loan spell last season.
There’s been no movement on the matter for weeks and a report last week indicated Stuttgart had set a deadline for the end of this week to get it sorted or they’d pull out entirely.
The latter is more likely according to BW 24, who say that the overall package for the striker is currently set to cost Stuttgart €50m. That’s an ‘insane sum’ for the German side for a number of reasons.
Principally that’s because Undav is already 27 years old and there is little chance that Stuttgart would make a profit if he were sold on down the line. His signing would be an investment for the here and now and a statement one for the rest of the Bundesliga.
But it would be an expensive one, even after the qualified for the Champions League, and they now seem to be considering whether it’s worth the hassle or the outlay.
Perhaps that’s something they’re just putting out into the world to try and push things along with Brighton, who have proven to be stubborn on this matter for months and may need a little more encouragement to finally accept Stuttgart’s offer.
