At the end of May, Girona publicly said goodbye to a number of players including Bryan Gil, who they’d had on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. That saw an assumption from some they’d decided not to use their €15m purchase option, although there were claims elsewhere it looked like a bargaining ploy.

Girona could try to get a cheaper price before the clause expires, on June 30th, but still have the option of using the clause until that date. That option wasn’t given up regardless of saying goodbye or not.

OrgulloBiri report Girona are still dithering over that, and Valencia are waiting in the wings. The latter have had Gil on loan from Tottenham previously, a loan which got off to a remarkably good start, so good in fact that he was dubbed ‘Maradona de Barbate’, relating to the area he’s from.

Form and fitness faded away and Gil ended up back at Tottenham.

Valencia now want him back and are waiting until that 30th June date passes to make their move. Once Girona’s clause has expired, Valencia can approach Spurs to see whether a reasonably priced deal can be negotiated.

Given the 24-year-old’s contract expires in June 2026, that may well be possible.
