As Everton approach the Friedkin era, there is hope from fans that there’ll be improvement in recruitment. That’s not just based on more money being invested, but it being spent more wisely.
Ole Nielsen was recently appointed as an International Scout at the club, focusing on the Scandinavia region, for the second time and in a chat with TipsBladet, he’s spoken about how the move came about.
Nielsen told Tipsbladet: “Since I stopped in 2018, I have kept in touch with Dan Purdy. In the world of football, it’s all about networking.
“We have kept in touch and had good cooperation when I was there the first time. I have helped them occasionally when he has asked about some players quite informally, and then he has helped me with some contacts at other clubs.”
“An opportunity arose where they want a little more focus on Scandinavia, and he (Dan Purdy) thought I was the right person for it.”
Jesper Lindstrom arrived at Everton in the summer and while he is yet to take off completely, his signing could be a signal of the club’s shifting priorities.
It is key to note that Nielsen is at the Toffees only in a part-time role and for now, he has a full time role at Brann.
In the past, he has also worked at Odense and Helsingor, which clearly suggests that Everton are working the contacts again.
Scandinavia presents a market where players can be signed for cheaper fees and the Merseyside club could be looking to move into such an arena.
