Crystal Palace haven’t given up on signing Toulouse’s Charlie Cresswell this summer.
The Premier League side are looking for a new centre-back with Chelsea showing interest in Maxence Lacroix.
Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from France that the Crystal Palace player would join Chelsea for €55m after the World Cup.
This has seen the Eagles look at Cresswell, who is also a target for other clubs.
Toulouse’s stance favours Crystal Palace
Recent claims from France have stated Charlie Cresswell has reached an agreement with Stade Rennais.
L’Equipe, after relaying it, claims the centre-back has a deal in place with the Ligue 1 side. Having sold Jérémy Jacquet for €70m, they have identified the Toulouse player as the top target to replace him.
After starting talks and reaching an agreement with the 23-year-old, the French club have submitted an offer. Their details aren’t clear, but it’s less than the €25m price set by their Ligue 1 counterpart.
Stade Rennais are unlikely to match it while Toulouse want to sell the defender to the highest bidder. This should favour Crystal Palace, who are keeping an eye on his situation.

New manager Pierre Sage could lead Crystal Palace’s interest in Charlie Cresswell as he wanted to sign him for his former club, RC Lens.
The UEFA Conference League winners are keen on the Englishman but can’t seem to make advances just yet. The London club are waiting to sort out Maxence Lacroix’s possible sale to Chelsea after the World Cup.
This would be needed to make further advances for the Toulouse defender. Lacroix is now with France, who face Paraguay in last 16 later today.
Therefore, the Eagles haven’t made a concrete bid yet. Stade Rennais are now in the lead and are likely to stay that way unless the Selhurst Park club submit an offer. In short, the English club need to rush to keep their hopes alive.
Cresswell joined Toulouse in July 2024, after a spell at Leeds United, and has played 66 matches. With a contract until 2028, Transfermarkt value him at €25m.
