Newcastle United will sign Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo in the next few hours, barring any last-minute surprises.
The Premier League side have been pushing to sign the forward for the past week.
A week ago, Newcastle United saw Lille reject their €40m offer. A day later, we relayed news of them returning with an improved bid of €60m and that wasn’t enough to convince the Ligue 1 side.
Newcastle United’s repeated efforts paying off

Matthias Jaissle’s side haven’t given up on the 21-year-old, who wants to leave in this window.
On Sunday, Sport Witness covered a report from France explaining that Newcastle United are close to reaching an agreement. There was no mention of the price or whether the player is open to joining them.
Le Petit Lillois pick up on that and again points out the Belgium international has asked to leave.
The Tyneside club have been persistent and the expectation is for him to arrive at St James’ Park soon.
Newcastle United move edging closer
Negotiations between the clubs have progressed to a point that they are nearing an agreement.
Lille will collect €65m from Matias Fernandez-Pardo’s sale to the English club. However, he can only leave if the French club were to secure a replacement. This is the key condition for them to approve his sale.
Feyenoord’s Ayase Ueda will be his replacement as both the Eredivisie side and the player have an agreement in place with Lille. In fact, the Japan international will soon travel for his medical.
La Voix du Nord relays claims made elsewhere about Ueda’s impending move to France and shares a short update about the Lille attacker.
Fernandez-Pardo is ‘very close to joining Newcastle United’. Lille will collect €65m from this operation and invest part of it to sign Ueda.
Lille president Olivier Létang had earlier requested for a convincing figure and a suitable replacement to let the Belgian leave.
Newcastle United have raised their offer by €5m and Ueda is travelling for medical. The two key conditions for Fernandez-Pardo’s sale are about to be fulfilled. Therefore, all parties are confident of him ending up at St James’ Park before Tuesday’s deadline.
