Following recent reports saying Manchester United are willing to sign Diogo Costa from Porto very soon, the Portuguese media today shows up with a response to that rumour.
It’s newspaper Correio da Manhã who first explains it’s the English press who’d like the Dragons’ goalkeeper to replace David De Gea at Old Trafford.
The outlet then claims that Porto ‘will not allow’ Costa to leave Porto in the middle of the season, since he’s one of the key players in their squad.
That’s why Dragons’ president Pinto da Costa is set to ‘require’ €75m, which is the amount of his release clause, to let him go at this stage.
Its still highlighted that with the great exhibitions Costa has been having for Porto, he’s been drawing the interest from many European giants, and that may be a reason why Manchester United could find some competition in the race to sign him.
The goalkeeper’s contract with Porto was recently extended, now running until 2027, and that’s one more reason why the Portuguese club feel well protected in this situation.
Whether Manchester United are ready to spend that much on him in January, however, remains to be seen.
