With the Spanish media having a clear belief that Barcelona are interested in the signing of Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea this summer, the latest updates on this situation had been quite positive, with different outlets saying the mission would be possible.

In the past week, it was first claimed that the Blues ‘had not triggered‘ a contract extension for the Spaniard yet, making him available to leave for free this summer, and then it was said the Catalan side ‘never lost interest’ in landing him, planning to soon make their move.

However, as Sport now features an update on the scenario, they claim that at Barcelona, they already see this battle as lost.

A short piece from journalist Alfredo Martinez claims there’s some ‘convincing’ at the Camp Nou side that he’s not arriving at the club this summer, as Chelsea are set to tie him with a new contract by triggering the clause which depends on his number of appearances this season.

Sport points out there’s now this ‘sensation’ that Azpilicueta won’t arrive at Barça this summer, because despite the strong interest, their big hope was signing the player for free. In case Chelsea demand a fee for the transfer, the La Liga giants are unlikely to carry on with their pursuit for the fullback.
