On New Year’s Eve, we relayed news from Germany that Borussia Dortmund are in the mix to sign Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen. It was also stated the left-back is ready to leave the Premier League side in the winter market.
Algeria international Ramy Bensebaini has been the first-choice left-back at Dortmund this season and he’ll be representing his country at AFCON later this month.
This has seen BVB look for solutions in the market and Bild state the focus is now on the Chelsea player.
It’s claimed Edin Terzić’s side are in ‘advanced talks’ with the 21-year-old over a potential deal in January.
The Netherlands U21 international’s contract lasts until 2025 and the outlet states he’s valued at around €20m. The Bundesliga side have been following him for a long time and believe now is the right time to strike a deal.
Bild state the German club are currently examining options [likely formulas] to carry out Maatsen’s transfer.
The Dutchman has been restricted as a substitute under Mauricio Pochettino as he’s made only one league start this season for the Blues. A move to Dortmund could see him start to enjoy more game time, at least until Bensebaini returns from AFCON.
