It appears that the big Wolverhampton Wanderers deadline day transfer saga is going to be the potential signing of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
A quick summary is that Wolves want the midfielder, have offered €8m and the player missed training on Friday morning waiting for the two clubs to reach an agreement.
As things stand, two reports from France, one from Alsa’Sports and the other from journalist Nabil Djellit, suggest the above amount is going to be rejected.
We’ll start with the local outlet, who state that Loïc Désiré, the club’s head of recruitment, has told them the club want to keep Bellegarde, even though his contract runs out in 2024.
It was made clear that the player could leave if a club made a €10m bid, which Wolves have yet to do, and it’s then added that amount could even be bigger now that we are on transfer deadline day and the club ‘count on him’ all the while wanting to renew him.
This is corroborated by Djellit, who took to Twitter to back up claims the offer for the player was €8m, but Strasbourg are ‘imagining nearly twice as much’ for a player who could sign a pre-contract with another club in four months time.
That falls in line with what Alsa’Sports were saying, and it seems Wolves are going to have to up their bid if they really want to sign Bellegarde before the end of today.
