Palmeiras are now closing in on the signing of Rangers left-back Jefté, with UOL reporting that the Brazilian club have reached a verbal agreement over a five-year contract. Negotiations with Russell Martin’s side are described as well advanced.
The remaining hurdle is finalising the deal with Rangers, and for that a face-to-face meeting is scheduled for this afternoon (Thursday August 14th) in London, with a Palmeiras representative set to attend.
The São Paulo side are confident of securing the 21-year-old and hope to have him available as early as next week. Rangers, however, still have Jefté in their plans for Tuesday’s Champions League playoff clash against Club Brugge at Ibrox, which will decide a spot in the group stage.
Jefté, who joined Rangers from APOEL in 2024 and was voted the best left-back in Scotland last season, has also attracted interest from clubs in England, but Palmeiras appear to be in pole position to get the deal over the line.
