Portuguese newspapers today highlight the transfer of Ivan Fresneda from Real Valladolid from Sporting, as he’s arriving in Lisbon in a €11m deal.

It’s believed that the Lions managed to beat some big competition for the signing, as the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea were said to be interested in the fullback.

Record has some interesting information on the Blues’ chase.

The newspaper writes that Fresneda had been ‘very close’ to joining Chelsea, as the Stamford Bridge side wanted to sign him and loan him out.

It’s said the transfer only didn’t happen because of Financial Fair Play, but the Blues actually still have a good chance of getting the player in the future.

It’s well known that Chelsea and Sporting hold a good relationship, and it’s now claimed that the London side are keeping a preference over Fresneda.

When Sporting sell the player, the Blues are set to be notified, and will have the chance to match or outbid all the offers that arrive for the player.

Record points out this ‘detail’ could be related to requests from his agent Fali Ramadami, who had been in England negotiating the deal last week.
