Celtic have tried to add Royal Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha to Brendan Rodgers’ squad in the last two transfer windows.

Royal Antwerp CEO Sven Jaecques had earlier stated they’d negotiated with Celtic and Stade Rennais, but an injury prevented his exit last summer.

In February, the 24-year-old said Celtic made a ‘concrete offer’ for him in January, but he decided to stay since he was recovering from injury.

The winger struggled with a muscle problem between December and March but has been a regular towards the end of this season. This has seen Scottish champions rekindle their interest.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that Celtic are ‘back in the race’ for Balikwisha.

He points out Brendan Rodgers’ side have been chasing the attacker since last summer. The journalist adds their officials have reconnected with the Belgian’s agent to start fresh talks regarding Balikwisha’s personal terms.

If Celtic are successful in agreeing terms with the player, they can open negotiations with Royal Antwerp to find an agreement for his transfer.

Balikwisha managed four goals and three assists from 17 games for Royal Antwerp in the recently concluded season.
