Celtic made attempts to add Royal Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha to Brendan Rodgers’ squad last summer and in the winter market.

In September, Royal Antwerp CEO Sven Jaecques said Celtic had been in negotiations to sign him. In February, the 24-year-old revealed there was a concrete offer from the Bhoys, but an injury stopped the move.

Fast forward to this summer and Celtic are still keen on their long-term target. On June 11th, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported they’d held talks with the forward’s agent.

Het Laatste Nieuws provides the latest on Celtic’s efforts to sign the Belgian.

Balikwisha is in his final year of contract and the report states he has no plans of signing an extension because of his desire to move. He’s said to have already told the Jupiler Pro League club.

Celtic have been tracking him long term and are ‘currently the most concrete option’ for the attacker. HLN explains they have made an offer, without mentioning a figure, but it’s short of the Belgian club’s demand.

Royal Antwerp paid €5.5m to buy Balikwisha from Standard Liège in 2021. According to HLN, they intend to recoup a large part of that in this window.
