Despite helping Nottingham Forest gain promotion back to the Premier League, Brice Samba felt the need to head back to France, which he did.
The goalkeeper was bought by RC Lens, where he established himself as a great goalkeeper, which has since earned him a call-up to the France national team.
L’Equipe on Thursday published their yearly list of what they estimate what Ligue 1 players earn, which tends to be fairly accurate, and include the former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper in there.
They reckon the goalkeeper is earning €119k/month in France, which makes him the third best paid player in the team behind Seko Fofana and striker Adam Buksa.
There’s no indication of what he previously earned at Nottingham Forest, so it isn’t said whether the player took a pay cut to join Lens, but at around £26k/week, you would have expected to earn more had he stayed in the Premier League.
Lens are currently third in Ligue 1 after 28 games with 57 points, and just two points behind second placed Marseille.
