For the past week or so, claims coming out of Spain have explained Brentford are keen on signing Assane Diao and are willing to make an offer to Real Betis.

The winger has a €30m clause and Real Betis sporting director Ramón Planes has stated he will only leave if this is activated.

Estadio Deportivo mention Brentford’s interest in the 18-year-old when discussing the La Liga side’s interest in signing his twin brother, Ousseynou, from Cádiz CF.

It’s difficult for the duo to be united at Real Betis since Assane is their ‘main asset’ in the market. The Bees are ‘well positioned’ but the deal is nowhere near to being completed.

ED state the Andalusian club have to double the Spain U21 international’s current salary if he were to receive an offer of at least €15m. That hasn’t happened yet and their aim is to offer him a new deal to raise his clause to €40m.

Assane hasn’t reached an agreement with Brentford nor is he negotiating with another club. It was Planes who informed his agent that an intermediary has brought an interest from elsewhere. The said intermediary hasn’t held talks with the player or his family.

With regards to Brentford, the report states they must now ‘rethink the negotiation and undertake it from scratch’.

The youngster is grateful to Real Betis for giving him an opportunity in their first team and won’t force a transfer this month.

As of Monday, ED state ‘there was no news’ from Thomas Frank’s side. His representatives would study a different track in the Premier League if the door to the London club is closed.

ED end their report by stating: ‘Only if La Palmera conveyed to him the need to make money with him and to receive a convincing offer (in terms of sport and economics) from England, would he consider an exit now.’

For now, there seems to be no firm movements from Brentford.
