Assane Diao’s emergence at Real Betis this season has attracted Brentford’s attention and this has been discussed in the Spanish press for the past few days.

Last Friday, Mundo Deportivo stated the La Liga side are aware of the Bees’ interest in the 18-year-old. Thomas Frank’s side haven’t yet made an offer and Mucho Deporte reported on Wednesday that Real Betis are waiting for news from England.

Estadio Deportivo state Brentford are willing to pay a fee between €20m and €25m for the winger.

It’s claimed this doesn’t worry the Andalusian club because Diao has a €30m clause in a deal that lasts until 2027.

The La Liga side are standing firm and will only allow the attacker to change clubs in the winter market if there’s an offer close to €30m. This was confirmed by Real Betis sporting director Ramón Planes during an interview with Movistar+ on Wednesday.

“We are very happy with his emergence. Remember that Betis, last year, played in the youth cup final. Assane was on that team and, within that youth philosophy, we are very happy that he is in the first team,” he said, as quoted by Estadio Deportivo.

“He is in a growth process. It’s normal that there is interest, but we refer to his clause”.

Brentford, who are willing to offer €20-25m, will have to make an extra effort if they want to sign the Spain U21 international this month.

Diao made his first team debut at the start of the season and has six goals to his name from 23 matches.
