For the past week or so, various claims coming out Spain have talked about Brentford’s desire to sign Real Betis’ Assane Diao in the winter market.

On Thursday, Estadio Deportivo reported the Bees are willing to pay a fee between €20m and €25m, while Real Betis sporting director Ramón Planes has publicly stated the winger will only leave if his €30m release clause is activated.

Mundo Deportivo suggest Diao’s days at the La Liga side are numbered because of Brentford’s interest.

It’s claimed Thomas Frank’s side are willing to trigger the 18-year-old’s clause this month and to do this, they will have to first find an agreement with the player.

The Spain U21 international, along with his father, has informed the Andalusian club about Brentford’s great interest and the offer they have proposed to him.

According to Mundo, the attacker wants the English club to ‘guarantee’ him a contract that will not see his annual salary reduced by half if Brentford were to be relegated.

That suggests such terms, a huge salary reduction for the Championship, are part of the Brentford proposal.

If the two parties can come to an agreement over personal terms, the report explains that the Premier League side would trigger Diao’s clause in the ‘coming days’.

The possibility of losing Diao to Brentford seems to have convinced Real Betis to keep Yanis Senhadji, rather than letting him go out on loan in January.
