It’s been known for a while that Chelsea loanee Nathan is unlikely to return to the club after the end of his spell at Atlético Mineiro, which expires in December.
Now website UOL brings a story today saying the Brazilian side are already working on a deal so they can keep him for longer.
Atlético made contact with Nathan’s staff father, as well as agent Giuliano Bertolucci. Now the duo are set to negotiate with Chelsea.
UOL says that the the move shouldn’t be difficult, since the Blues don’t have any plans to add Nathan to their squad in January.
The midfielder’s contract with the Stamford Bridge side expires in June. UOL says it’s likely that he’ll sign a new six-month loan with Atlético, and then become a free agent, with the chance of staying at the Brazilian side.
Nathan spoke to the local media after the win against Santos at the weekend, and made it clear that he wants to stay.
“There hasn’t been any progress yet, but I have already expressed my wish to my father and my agent. My desire is to stay here. I have created a great identification with the fans and the club. I am glad that things are going the right way.”
