Liverpool need to spend at least €200m on four or five new players for their squad this summer, but don’t have the funds available to do it.
That’s according to Dietmar Hamann, who believes the Reds need an overhaul of their squad this summer amid an increasingly disappointing campaign.
Liverpool currently ninth in the Premier League after 18 games of the season, with just eight wins from those games and six defeats in total.
They are already ten points behind in the race for Champions League football and have lost their last two games, the latest a demoralizing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton.
Questions are now being raised regarding the current squad at Anfield, and in particular a midfield which has struggled to impress this season.
That area of the team is one Jurgen Klopp wants to improve in, with a big money move for Jude Bellingham proposed for several months.
Hamann believes it would take more than the England star to improve Liverpool, though, but doubts the Reds have the funds available to do what is necessary.
“They can’t compensate for the absentees and have four or five players who are probably facing the end of their Liverpool careers,” he told Sky Sports Germany.
“Milner is 37, Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain have expiring contracts, they haven’t shown enough at Liverpool.
“Fabinho hasn’t played well in the last six months, I’m not a big fan of Thiago and Henderson is always such an issue too. They would have to bring in four or five new players in midfield alone and also strengthen their defence.
“They would have to spend at least €200m, but I don’t think they have that money.”
