Last Friday, Il Bianconero reported Tottenham Hotspur have come forward as a ‘new and heavy’ competitor for Juventus in the race to sign Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku.

The Serie A side tried to carry out a swap deal involving the 30-year-old and Dušan Vlahović but haven’t managed to agree a deal with the Blues so far.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Chelsea striker is now on Tottenham’s agenda and there have been contacts in the ‘last few hours’.

Spurs haven’t made progress yet but the journalist says it’s a case to follow since they are in the market for a new No.9, after selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

Pedullà took to Twitter to add the Belgium international and Spurs are ‘awaiting further talks’, after the first contact.

Over at Gazzetta dello Sport, they state Tottenham have ‘decided to test the waters’ for the former Everton man, who would cost around €45m.

They add Ange Postecoglou’s side have ‘already started contacts’ with Chelsea for Lukaku, who’s been left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Lukaku isn’t keen on staying in England but Gazzetta say Spurs are a ‘better’ solution for him than moving to Saudi Arabia. The player would consider the latter only if he can’t find a new club in Europe.

Postecoglou’s side have started contacts with both Lukaku and Chelsea over a potential deal, and whether they would be successful in getting the deal over the line remains to be seen.
