Arsenal’s move for Brighton and Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard has ruined Marseille’s plans to sign the Belgian.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the French side have been ‘overtaken’ by the Gunners and their ‘other financial resources’.
Trossard is on the verge of making the move to the Emirates this month after Arsenal struck a £27m deal for the player with Brighton today.
He has been pushing for a move away from the Seagulls for months and a falling out with Roberto de Zerbi has helped him achieve that.
L’Equipe report that Marseille were ‘keen’ to sign Trossard and he had been made the ‘priority’ for CEO Pablo Longoria and sporting director Javier Ribalta.
They had been in talks with the Brighton man and his entourage for ‘several weeks’ but then Arsenal ‘entered the fray’ and the situation changed.
They have ‘financial resources’ that Marseille do not to help them secure Trossard’s signature and they are now close to getting a deal done.
The forward is ‘attracted by the prospect’ of joining the Gunners and his entourage are already ‘very close to an agreement’ on his contract terms.
That’s left Marseille disappointed and ‘not holding out much hope’ that they will get a player they have been targeting for some time.
