AIK defender Daniel Sundgren has thanked former West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City defender Graham Potter after his near death experience.
Sundgren was rushed to hospital last week after developing a blood clot on his lungs.
Speaking to Fotboll Direkt, the 26 year old was asked about the best wishes he’s received since being taken ill, and in particular from other Swedish clubs: “I can take Graham Potter as an example, who does not know me and yet sends his best wishes and hopes that I’m doing well.
“Then I think of players from other clubs, including Djurgården and Hammarby, it’s warming that they can also show that respect in tough times.”
Potter has built up something of a reputation since being installed as the Östersunds FK coach in 2011. The former West Brom and Stoke City player is on the verge of taking OFK to the knock stages of this season’s Europa League, and last month they were just minutes away from a famous victory over La Liga giants Athletic Bilboa.
The 42 year old made the step up to management a few years after he finished playing in 2005, when he took the OFK job. Before that Potter played for a number of English clubs in his 13 year playing career, including Stoke City and West Brom.
Potter spent three seasons at Stoke City before his move to West Brom in 1997. The OFK boss went on to have three seasons at the Hawthorns, making over forty league appearances.
