Aston Villa‘s Victor Lindelöf has enjoyed a good start to this season and the Premier League side want to reward him by offering an extension.

The Sweden international spent eight years at Manchester United and left them as a free agent in June 2025. He waited for two months before joining Aston Villa in September of that year.

In his debut season at Villa Park, the centre-back played 1,784 minutes from 28 matches and that includes 11 league starts. He started as a defensive midfielder in the Villans’ 3-0 win over SC Freiburg in the Europa League final in May.

Drastic improvement at Aston Villa

After the Europa League final, the defender said he started playing pain free. He had ruled out a move away from the English club in the summer and the decision has paid off.

Ezri Konsa left Villa Park for Arsenal in the summer window. His exit saw the 32-year-old take an important role this season. To put it in context, he played every minute for Unai Emery’s side in all competitions.

His contract runs down in 2027, but his future beyond this season could be in England. That’s because Sportbladet states Aston Villa want to reward him with a new contract for at least a year.

In fact, the Villans have already informed Victor Lindelöf of their desire to extend it until 2028.

Quick developments on Aston Villa renewal

The former Benfica man seems to be open to extending his stay with Unai Emery’s side beyond this season.

Sources have informed the newspaper that ‘everything indicates’ his new contract ‘will be finalised in the near future’. This indicates rapid developments around Victor Lindelöf’s renewal.

However, the announcement may ‘take a while’, without the outlet giving any explanation. It looks like Aston Villa want to reward him for his impressive start to the season with a new contract.

The Swede turned 32 years of age in July and will be close to 34 if he were to stay until the end of next season. Even if he no longer enjoys more game time, his experience and leadership can be valuable to the Europa League winners.
