Nottingham Forest‘s Nicolò Savona is working on his recovery, after suffering a serious blow to his knee in January.

The right-back arrived at the City Ground from Juventus for around €13m plus bonuses in August 2025.

He immediately cemented his place at Nottingham Forest and played 1,500 minutes from 20 matches, even managing two goals and two assists. The Italian’s last appearance was in the Europa League defeat to SC Braga on January 22nd.

Savona has been out of action since then, meaning he’s yet to play under Oliver Glasner for the Reds.

Delay in Nottingham Forest player’s recovery

Nicolò Savona underwent surgery and Glasner recently talked about him facing complications during his rehabilitation process.

The Italian media are covering his situation with TuttoMercatoWeb reporting the fullback’s ‘recovery is progressing slowly’.

The expectation was for the 23-year-old to return in October, and the delay in his recovery means it’s unclear whether he will return to the pitch this month.

Another Italian outlet, Tutto Atalanta, shares more updates on his injury situation. They also report the player’s goal is to return this month but he’s yet to set the date.

Nottingham Forest are taking a cautious approach as their priority is to not rush him back to ‘jeopardise his recovery’.

Injury not stopping transfer interest

In August, Sport Witness covered a report from Italy explaining that Atalanta wanted to sign him in the summer window. Both TMW and Tutto Atalanta highlights it now.

La Dea had changed their stance because Raoul Bellanova had impressed during pre-season. He has been a regular under Maurizio Sarri this season, and the Serie A side are unlikely to return for the Nottingham Forest player soon.

Meanwhile, Nicolò Savona’s immediate focus is on regaining full fitness and featuring again for Nottingham Forest.

The Premier League side signed Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace in the summer. The move saw the Colombian reunite with former Eagles manager Oliver Glasner at the City Ground.

Muñoz will make it challenging for Savona to regain his place in the starting lineup, once the Italian becomes available for selection.
