Liverpool are considering signing Tyler Morton to resolve the regret of selling him to Lyon in August 2025.
The defensive midfielder was born in Merseyside and came up through the ranks of the Reds’ youth system.
He made his first team debut in 2021 when Jürgen Klopp was in charge at Liverpool. They sent him on loan to Blackburn Rovers and Hull City between 2022 and 2024, to let Morton continue his development.
The midfielder made 14 appearances for the Premier League side, who sold him to Lyon. His decision to move to France has seen him enjoy regular minutes. He played 3,491 minutes from 43 matches last season and has 792 minutes from 10 matches this season.
Juventus face Liverpool challenge
Tyler Morton’s performances for the Ligue 1 side have seen him attract interest from a few clubs, including Liverpool and Juventus.
That’s according to Tutto Juve, who makes it clear it’s their own information about these two clubs. They cover Andoni Iraola’s side when reporting the latest about the Old Lady.
The Serie A side are looking for a young midfielder with experience, and the 23-year-old fits the bill. There’s been no approach and their interest is now at an observation stage.
Juventus have to be wary of the Anfield club, who ‘regret’ selling him to Lyon in 2025 and are now reevaluating their decision.
The Reds are ‘considering sensational return’ of their former player. Liverpool aren’t ‘ruling out buying him back’ and will need to spend significantly more than what they received.
There’s no mention of the midfielder’s price. His value, as per Transfermarkt, is €30m, a €18m rise since joining Lyon.
Liverpool have edge over Juventus
A year ago, Tyler Morton said he took the right step by leaving the Premier League side for Lyon. He wanted regular minutes that weren’t available for him at Anfield.
At that time, the midfielder also talked about his dream of playing for England. He played for England U20 and U21s but is yet to receive a call-up from the Three Lions.
A return to Liverpool, provided he plays regularly, may improve his chances of playing for England. The Reds can use this as an argument to convince their former player to return to Anfield.
This, coupled with their past connection, gives them an edge over other potential suitors.
