Tottenham fans who may have celebrated the departure of Guglielmo Vicario this summer, might want to reconsider that.
It seems that the Italian goalkeeper’s move to Juventus may not be as final as they might have hoped.
The 29-year-old joined Juventus on loan at the end of the transfer window to become the Italian side’s new number one.
They had spent the summer looking at various options, such as Liverpool’s Alisson, before eventually getting the Tottenham man.
The deal includes an option for Juventus to make it permanent, but it seems that option is not one Juventus will be jumping to use quickly.
Juventus waiting
TuttoJuve report that while Vicario has made a positive impression at the club so far, leading to confidence in the Bianconeri camp, there are still uncertainties about his future.
Sportmediaset journalist Orazio Accomando then detailed what’s going on behind the scenes.
“There are certainly uncertainties regarding his future in the role, given that Vicario arrived on loan with an option to buy,” he said.
“Juventus wants to use this season to evaluate the former Tottenham goalkeeper. The initial signs regarding Guglielmo Vicario’s performance are certainly encouraging and positive. But it is still too early to tell if he will be Juve’s goalkeeper in the long run.”
Bad news for Tottenham
That won’t come as good news for Tottenham. First and foremost, this deal feels very much like one they were bullied into at the last minute by a bigger team.
It certainly does not appear to be an ideal deal, to say the least. They would have wanted Vicario out permanently this summer, even just to help further balance the books.
Instead, they now face the distinct possibility of him returning next summer. We would be shocked if Juventus don’t spend next summer negotiating the clause to get the best possible deal.
