Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate has confirmed he will be leaving the club this summer, when his contract expires.
The midfielder has been speaking to Gol Caracol in Colombia about his future amid numerous reports regarding a potential transfer this month.
Alzate has been back at Brighton undergoing treatment on an injury, having spent the season on loan with Standard Liege for a second year.
During his time back at the club it’s been widely reported that Brighton have been shopping him around, hoping to sell him somewhere before the end of the window to avoid losing him on a free in the summer.
Those efforts proved to be fruitless, though, as they were unable to find anyone willing to pay and eventually sent him back to Standard Liege.
That would see him remain in Belgium until the end of his contract with Brighton, and he has confirmed he’ll be bringing his time with the Seagulls to an end at that point.
“It’s always nice to hear that there is interest from other teams. My contract with Brighton is already running out, so let’s see what happens,” he said.
“At the moment, I’m still at Standard Liege. The January market ends at the end of the month, so I’m waiting to see what happens, but if I stay at Standard Liege to give it my all as always and finish the season as best as possible.
“I have been at Brighton for almost seven years. I am very grateful to the team, to the club, but like everything, it comes to an end.
“I have already been on loan for a year and a half, I don’t have much left in my contract, so the most likely thing is let me sign for another club. That’s for the moment, then we’ll see what happens.”
