Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS representatives met with the Glazer family in Florida last week to discuss their potential takeover of Manchester United, but there is no ‘definitive agreement’ yet.
That’s according to journalist Santi Aouna, who say the talks were considered ‘positive’, but a deal is unlikely to be signed any time soon.
Ratcliffe was named as the favourable bidder for Manchester United earlier this year having beat competition from Saudi Arabia when it became clear that the Glazer family were looking to sell.
A deal has been bubbling away ever since, with it believed that Ratcliffe and INEOS will take a minority ownership in the club and run the sporting side of the business moving forwards.
There had been hope a deal would be quickly finalised but that has not proven to be the case, with the process seemingly dragging on and no progress being made.
However, he insists that there is no ‘total and definitive agreement yet’, indicating that the process may be set to go on for some time yet.
He adds that Paul Mitchell, who the former sporting director at Monaco, is still at the top of the list for the role at Manchester United but ‘nothing has been signed yet’.
That is not the Christmas news that United fans will have been hoping for, with all indications that the process is not moving quickly, or indeed at all, at this moment in time.
