There was a brief period of around two weeks or so when Nottingham Forest looked likely to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon.
The midfielder was almost persona non grata at the Ligue 1 side, and despite offers from the City Ground side, a deal was never fully struck.
Various versions of the story have since appeared, with some claiming Nottingham Forest’s offer could never be accepted, while others state the Premier League side weren’t happy with how Lyon went about their negotiations.
That being said, despite featuring for just 30 minutes against Ajaccio in early August and a failed Nottingham Forest transfer, Foot Mercato in France are now claiming his team are now looking to extend his contract.
His current deal expires in 2023, meaning he could start speaking with other clubs from January onwards; something Lyon seem keen to avoid.
The website reveal that following the recent performances (two losses in a row) mean he could end up making his way back into the starting line-up, which would then be followed up by a new two-year extension.
That means that if Nottingham Forest were waiting until January to make another move, they might be blocked by Lyon should Aoaur end up accepting the deal to be put in front of him.
