Manchester United are ‘well placed’ to make a move for Sevilla star Jules Koundé, and the Spanish side have already lined up a replacement for him.
That’s according to SuperDeporte, who cover how Sevilla chief Monchi is ready to make a move for Barcelona’s Clément Lenglet after manager Julen Lopetegui gave his okay to the signing.
They say that with Lopetegui set to stay at the club for the foreseeable future, their attention has now turned to the January transfer window.
‘Planning’ is underway with director of football Monchi, who has asked for a number nine but also reinforcements for his defence.
In this sense, they have turned their attention to Lenglet, a former Sevilla player who Barcelona are more than happy to sell in their efforts to reduce the wage bill and raise funds for new signings for Xavi.
Lenglet has Gerard Piqué, Eric García and Araujo ahead of him, and it seems there will be very little opportunity for him moving forwards.
He’s been heavily linked with a move away from the club, and Manchester United are currently at the front of the queue for his signature.
Last month it was reported he was an ‘object of desire’ for United, and since then, there have been various hints a move could be on the cards, with it made clear Sevilla would have to accept an offer if the economics were right.
Super Deporte now add to that and state that Manchester United are ‘well placed’ to make a bid for the defender, which will then trigger Sevilla moving for Lenglet.
What they mean by this isn’t made clear, but the suggestion is that Ralf Rangnick’s side have done some of the work behind the scenes and are now ready to make their move.
That could just be optimism on the Spanish side of things, but this transfer rumour has been building for a while, and we’re sure there’ll be more as January gets closer.
