Chelsea striker Timo Werner has heaped praise on Germany coach Hansi Flick for giving him the trust he needed to rediscover his goalscoring form.
The German striker has endured another tough start to the season with Chelsea, despite being a regular in the side under Thomas Tuchel.
Werner has managed just two goals in eight games in all competitions so far and now finds himself very much under Romelu Lukaku’s shadow after his huge move from Inter Milan in the summer.
The Belgian’s presence means the pressure in on Werner to prove his place in the side, something that he is struggling to do so far.
That’s something he’s been rewarded by so far, with Werner bagging three goals in three games during the international break in September and another two during this one.
He was at the double in the 4-0 win over North Macedonia on Sunday, and the Chelsea man was quick to praise his national boss afterwards.
“When the coach relies on you, it helps every player,” Sport 1 report him saying.
“I need this trust from the outside; he gives me that one hundred per cent.
“I try to repay that. That has worked well in four out of five games.”
