With reports from the English media claiming that Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in signing Marc Cucurella from Getafe, the Spanish press now brings a response to it.
AS takes the news which said the Seagulls would offer €15m for the midfielder, and now explains the chances of a potential transfer.
It all starts with the fact that the amount that Brighton would put on the table is the same as Cucurella’s release clause. Recent reports claimed the price was €30m, but the player himself confirmed it was just half of that, and that was seen by a few outlets as a sign that he wants a summer move.
Now since it’s not Getafe’s intention to make any big sales in this transfer window, that means they’re not compromising for an agreement with Brighton and the clause must be triggered. That means the Seagulls’ offer should not be enough.
Due to Spanish laws, triggering the release clause will require the payment of taxes, which means the Seagulls would need to spend a little over €18m to sign the midfielder.
It means that in order to save a few million, Brighton would need to convince Getafe to agree to a deal for the move. Still, AS makes it clear that the La Liga side are not negotiating.
