Belief Liverpool have entered ‘final stages’ of defender purchase – Currently ‘going through all data again’

Liverpool are in the ‘final stages’ of a move for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konaté, who will cost less than the €40m previously reported.

That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who says the defender is now available for €32.5m–34m.

Konaté has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield over the last month, with reports in England stating that they were close to a deal.

That was something they pulled back on in Germany, where it was claimed that Liverpool weren’t actually that advanced and were pursuing a permanent deal for Ozan Kabak first.

Earlier today, however, Falk took to Twitter to reveal that the clause in Konaté’s contract is lower than what has been previously reported, something we speculated could cause Liverpool to change up their plans.

That certainly appears to be the case, with Falk now stating in a video with more information that Jürgen Klopp and co. appear to be in the ‘final stages’ of a move for the RB Leipzig star.

“He doesn’t have seem to be that expensive after all,” he told BILD.

“It’s quiet, so they’re really in the final stages of the transfer now; I heard they’re going through, and they’re just going through all the data again as he’s had a few injuries.

“The nice news is they’ve always talked about €40m plus, but he’s supposed to cost, according to our information, the transfer fee is €32.5m- €34m.

“That means in these times, every million that’s cheaper makes the transfer easier, of course.”
