Bought from Valencia for just under £2m, Wolverhampton’s Rafa Mir wasn’t part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans at Molineux this season and was subsequently sent out on loan.
Landing at Las Palmas in Spain’s second division, the young forward has enjoyed himself on the Canary Islands, starting just over half of the club’s league games and helping them with seven goals and an assist.
With his deal with the Spanish side expiring in June and no option to buy, the 21-year-old is expected to return to Wolverhampton this summer, where a decision will need to be made about his future.
Sitting down in an interview with Marca on Friday, Mir was asked about what next season held for him and if he wanted to continue at Las Palmas.
As for whether his future will be with Wolves: “I haven’t thought about and I’m not losing sleep about it either. I’m focused on the present and, to tell you the truth, I don’t know what will happen this summer”.
That’s a fairly honest answer if we’ve ever seen one, and it goes to show how a lot of footballers think these days.
The next 12 months of their career is what’s most important, and in Rafa Mir’s case, that might not be via Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he is currently contracted until 2022.
