We’ve got some good and bad news for Newcastle United fans about the chase for Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris.

Let’s start recalling that the Magpies have been reported as one of the clubs who are interested in signing the player on a free transfer this summer. And this week, Dinamo Moscow were said to be one of the competitors.

Now newspaper A Bola brings a story today saying Samaris is not really keen on moving to Russia, partly because he has better offers from other places.

That sounds positive for Newcastle, but only if they’re still in the race. Because the only mention the Magpies get from A Bola is to recall they tried to sign the player in January.

It’s not clear if the Premier League side would make another attempt, although that was reported earlier this week, while the newspaper only names the interest from Getafe and, of course, Benfica.

The Eagles are trying to renew Samaris’ contract, but are unlikely to match his demands. Meanwhile, the player wants to sort out his situation as soon as possible so he can go on vacation with his future decided.
