After news that Bayern Munich looked set to sign Serge Gnabry from Arsenal for a frankly risible fee of €8m and then loan him to Werder Bremen, it seems the latter of the two clubs are trying to skip a step altogether.
The club’s official Twitter account released some quotes from Frank Baumann, the club’s sporting director, who gave an update on the situation surrounding the youngster.
He explained that the arrival of Serge Gnabry, should it happen, would be their last bit of business of the transfer window, but if it didn’t happen, they would not be looking for an alternative.
#Baumann: “Wenn es bei @SergeGnabry nicht klappen sollte, wovon ich nicht ausgehe, werden wir nichts mehr machen.”

Furthermore, the former defensive midfielder also admitted speaking to Per Mertesacker about the 21-year-old , who only had nice things to say.

Finally, Baumann revealed both clubs had reached an agreement in principle for a deal, but nothing had been signed yet.
#Baumann: “Wir haben grundsätzlich eine Einigung mit @Arsenal erzielt, aber es ist noch nichts unterschrieben.”

There was no indication as to whether this would end up being a full transfer or just a loan, but it seems Bayern are out of the equation, at least for the time being.
