The Belgian media have had a strange relationship with Leander Dendoncker over the past few years.
Transfer rumours were repeatedly pushed around the player and he made it clear more than once that he was looking to move away from Belgian football.
Anderlecht officials also spoke out repeatedly and leaked various asking prices to the media, ranging from €12m to a ridiculous €38m over the period of the prolonged transfer saga.
As move opportunities came and went, there was a negativity towards Dendoncker, almost like it had been he who pushed the idea of a huge fee rather than Anderlecht. He wasn’t at the level he thought, claimed some, and could end up with a transfer less illustrious than had been predicted.
That’s how the Wolves transfer was seen, a lesser club than what had been planned for.
And now with zero Premier League minutes to his name for Wolves so far this season, the questions around the 23 year old are being brought out again.
Their journalist Eddy Demarez is quoted as saying: “I find it especially strange that he has not yet entered the competition in the league, he played 1 time in the League Cup, it’s not a top team, but with some Portuguese there’s some football in it.
“He’s now four weeks in, so I find it quite disturbing that he still waits. Maybe he has trouble picking up the pace. It’s of course a lot higher than in the Belgian competition. In any case, it would be a shame, even for the Red Devils, if he did not come to the forefront.”
