Liverpool’s interest in Marco Asensio doesn’t appear to be something the Spanish media have plucked from thin air.
Whether the claims of interest and offers from Anfield are true or not, it’s increasingly clear this is a story being pushed to the media in Spain.
Several outlets have had it, all presenting the claims as their own information.
On Tuesday, Asensio himself insinuated the interest had got out, rather than dismissing the whole situation as market rumours, and said his future is something he’ll leave until after the World Cup.
The Real Madrid player could have very easily said he has no intention of leaving, doesn’t care what is reported, and won’t be moving anywhere.
Marca have their own take on things today and go with a headline saying ‘Liverpool offers €180m for him’. It’s explained that whilst Asensio is concentrating on the World Cup he isn’t oblivious to things and the ‘tremendous offer’ Liverpool have in mind for him.
It’s made clear by Marca that this is their own information and they’re not simply leaning on previous claims, and it’s stated Liverpool have already prepared the €180m offer and Asensio is aware of the interest.
Liverpool are ready to do ‘crazy’ things to sign the player, both in terms of transfer fee and giving Asensio a huge wage package, making him one of their best paid players.
Real Madrid are calm about the situation but it’s said they know they need to talk with their player because he wants to take the next step in his career and get more prominence.
Liverpool are willing to guarantee him being an important part of the team, something he doesn’t have at Madrid.
This all feels like a player’s entourage pushing a story around. That’ll either be because it’s true and they want it out there, or that it’s been manufactured or embellished to help Asensio get what he wants at Real Madrid.
