The front page of Tuesday’s Mundo Deportivo features César Azpilicueta, and the Catalan newspaper say ‘Yes or yes’, which is them giving a message that Barcelona will try hard to sign the Chelsea player this summer.

Barcelona have made a ‘firm commitment’ to the Blues captain that they’re going to move strongly for him, but it’s Chelsea who hold the power right now.

Mundo Deportivo explain that Chelsea activated their clause to extend Azpilicueta’s contract before the government sanctions were imposed on Roman Abramovich, and by extension the Premier League club.

That means he can’t simply walk out on a free transfer, and Chelsea will have to agree to any summer exit.

Whilst the player wants the move, he wants to leave his current club through the front door and on good terms, given his good history at Stamford Bridge. Barcelona will therefore enter negotiations with Chelsea once the new ownership of the club has been settled.

That would suggest that a fee could be paid to make the move happen this summer.
