During Fernandinho’s current visit to Brazil, where he’s taking part in Manchester City events in the country, the local media is mostly focused on one single subject.

There’s big curiosity regarding the midfielder’s future. He’s been frequently linked to several Brazilian clubs, and with his contract with the Premier League side expiring this summer, this is now a chance to sign him for free.

So Globo Esporte ran a long story only about his chances of returning to his old side Athletico Paranense. They not only had a word with Fernandinho himself, but with some of his relatives as well.

Fernandinho’s mother, Ane Cristiane, pointed out she’d like to see her son playing for his old club again: “I still do not know. There’s nothing resolved. But we hope he goes to Athletico, if he comes.”

The player’s sister, Thais Roza, shares the same opinion: “If you ask what my dream is, I’ll tell you. Athletico Paranaense for sure.”

Fernandinho, however, takes things more calmly, claiming his Manchester City future, and what potentially happens after his stay with the English club, will be decided in the summer.

“My contract ends now in June, at the end of the season. As happened last year, we’ll probably have a family conversation to define the future, what it will be for us. So far my agent has not passed me anything. Even because we are already in March, nothing was passed to me. But obviously if Athletico look for him, and as happened last year, we will talk without any problem.

“Mystery in the soap opera is good, why wouldn’t it be in real life?”

Following all those quotes, Globo Esporte’s reporter pointed out she felt like Fernandinho is indeed waiting for a contact from Athletico. But it seems that hasn’t happened yet, just like the conversations for a potential renewal with Manchester City.
